The neighborhood of Southgate is closely associated with one of Houston’s greatest institutions, Rice University. Southgate’s northern border, heavily tree-lined University Boulevard, separates the Rice campus from the neighborhood, and Southgate itself boasts some of the city’s most magnificent oak tree canopies.
Southgate proper is defined by University Boulevard on the north; Holcombe Boulevard on the south; Travis Street on the east; and Greenbriar Street on the west; the Southgate Annex is east of Main Street. The main Southgate neighborhood is divided into three deed-restricted sections.
Original homes date from the 1930s and range in price from the high $500,000s into the high $700,000s for those with extensive updating. New construction homes are priced upwards from $1 million.
