Spring Branch

Spring Branch is a charming, diverse neighborhood ideally located close enough to the inner loop that one can easily access downtown Houston and the Galleria area. Relatively close to the heart of the city, it still maintains a relaxed country feel. It began as a religious community where German farmers decided to settle in the mid-to-late 1840’s. They were fleeing oppressive conditions and seized the opportunity to own land in the newly formed Lone Star State. Setting roots near Buffalo Bayou, they named their newly discovered area Spring Branch and began their operation of dairies, sawmills, and other entrepreneurial ventures. Originating as a religious community one of their first priorities was to construct a church. Farmers cleared surrounding forestland and built St. Peter’s United Lutheran Church which is at its original site today at the cross streets of Long Point and Campbell.

One of Spring Branch’s greatest assets is being affiliated with the Spring Branch Independent School District. It is known for an exceedingly high percentage of its students attaining a college degree. A bright spot of history illuminates that it was begun with the Spring Branch School Society that was sponsored by St. Peter’s Church in 1856. Wide tree-lined streets and large lots have encouraged redevelopment throughout the area. The authenticity of the older homes has generated great rebirth of remodeling and builders have enhanced the neighborhood with their creative building of newly constructed homes, townhomes and gated subdivisions.

A good number of the members of the original families still reside in Spring Branch and are a part of St. Peter’s Church. The cemetery behind the church holds the remains of many of the first pioneers and their legacy is honored there. As we experience a true transformation of the great city of Houston, it is very clear that Spring Branch is highly desirable. It’s various cultures, fantastic location and over all appeal have combined to create the driving force that makes it a splendid choice for a place to call home.
